Two rails, a bumper, a single painted line — they do not all survive dusk the same way. We lamp the head at bay-dark, then again with the window cracked so Madison streetlight dirties the picture.

Wings that still read after dusk
Mallet Bay is not an iron shop with a leftover putter rack. We map how far the mass sits behind the face, whether the wings still aim when Overton light dies, and how much toe a mallet is allowed to release on Midtown bermuda.
The quarrel
A blade is a different animal
People walk in asking for “a putter fitting” as if the head family were a paint color. A blade hangs, a mallet resists. The mass in a mallet sits farther from the face, the wings give you a second horizon, and the toe may barely move. If your stroke wants rotation, a face-balanced mallet will fight you until Tuesday. If your stroke wants a quiet face, a hanging blade will wander on the first twelve feet of Overton grain.
We opened Suite 4 in 2015 because Midtown golfers were buying mallets from a wall and then blaming the bermuda. Grain on Memphis greens runs toward the river more often than catalogs admit. A wing that looks square under a big-box fluorescent goes shy under twilight. The indoor bay exists to freeze that argument before you take it outside.

02 — Mass
CG depth
How far the center of gravity sits behind the face decides whether the ball starts and stays, or hops then dies. Deep CG steadies a pushy stroke. Shallow CG lets you work a ball you may not want to work.
03 — Release
Mallet hang
Face-balanced, slight hang, or a mallet that still toes down like a blade in a tuxedo. We hang the head on a peg and then on your hands. Catalog stamps lie about both.

An indoor mat that argues with Overton
The carpet is not a green. We say that out loud. What it does well is hold a roll long enough to see if the face is square at the first hop and whether the ball wants left after four feet. Outdoor bermuda at Overton Park and Galloway will add grain, moisture, and a slope the mat refuses to fake. We send people outside with a note, not a fairy tale.
Bring the mallet you actually miss with. Bring the ball you play on Saturday. Street shoes stay by the door — the mat remembers every heel dent.
